People who have their own blogs and sites that contain guestbooks or allow visitors to place their own comments with regards to the site content have to deal with Web Spamming as well.
Forum Spamming
Forum Spamming is the posting of messages that are either rubbish, abusive, a marketing gimmick or useless. Comments such as purely placing information that would want to inform other visitors on certain websites or available information on the web is a clear case of web spamming. A lot of these can be seen in forums, especially the ones that do not use strict moderation of the comments that are placed beforehand.
Blog Spam
A blog spam is simply a blog that does not have much in form of content. With the main aim of generating traffic, blog spams do not really contribute anything relevant. They exist to provide links to their parent websites and nothing else.
Thus blog spams may contain just about anything. To increase traffic to the parent website, blog spams are normally filled with only links or classifieds, which actually point to another site.
Another aspect of spam blogging is the comment feature. Programs are created to post spam as comments in different blogs. This has become an irritant because spam posted as comments are generally unrelated to the blog topic.
Comment Spam
A comment spam is generally characterized with links and no sense. Comment spam in huge volumes actually allows the spammers to generate high ranking in search engines. It helps them generate more revenue from receiving more AD clicks. There are two common types of Comment Spam generation techniques, manual and automatic generation. Manual spam messages are manually inputted by visitors to any website or blog site that they come across using alias names or names closer or related to the information that they are spamming. The automatic comment generation spamming, automated tools crawl the web looking for comment like or guest book forms that allow anyone to automatically post bogus content on them.
Phishing
The most dangerous type of spam is phishing. Phishing is an increasingly common type of spam that can lead to theft of your personal details such as credit card numbers or online banking passwords. Phishers send messages trying to make you believe they are huge companies like paypal, ebay, stormpay, HSBC and many others. The email may ask you to reply with your account details in order to "update security" or for some other reason. Further more these may contain adware or spyware. You should just delete them. Never click the links. You can read the title of your email messages and simple understand they are fake.
Image spam
Spam attacks where the text is replaced with images aimed at lightly protected email systems are growing in popularity. With the variety of anti-spam filters that analyze the message content to weed out unsolicited emails, spammers continue to increasingly adopt image spam.
Most anti-spam programs detect text-based spam very well, but they totally fail when a spam message has no text to analyze. Thus, the rapid rise of the image spams. These spam messages often include image files that have a screen shot offering the same types of information advertised in more traditional text spam.
Image spam can also include unique trackers which work when a recipient opens the message and let the sender know it's a valid email address, ripe for future mailings. Image spam is probably the best technique that spammers have today to get past the anti-spam filters.
Referrer spam
Referrer spam is triggered by keywords. Whenever a user searches something through the net, there is always a possibility for the keywords to hit the spam trigger. This method utilizes various landing pages which were methodically done in order to rank in various search engines.
People click on search results without worrying that they are about to view a referrer spam page. Upon opening it, the user will then feel like he or she has been had. The often senseless and keyword oriented landing pages will try to redirect you to the referred site. This is the very reason why it is called referrer spamming.
Guestbook spam
Spamming is the term that best describes leaving behind comments on various sites, particularly guestbook scripts placed for visitor. It can be easy to spot guestbook spamming, especially comments that have nothing to do with the site relevance, and providing links towards other sites in the guestbook as well. Guestbook spam scripts have been made developed to drive in traffic to spammers' websites.
As with all spamming efforts, Web spamming is not that different from the main purpose of the others. Either to create mischief or promote sites that is yearning for attention to be able to earn profits through hits and visitors. Web spamming may seem to be a good way to achieve this, but considering that it is at the expense of innocent sites that are simply up for their own rational reasons, web spamming is really something that is disheartening and despised by people.
